Recommendations and Warnings

Cane Creek recommends only trained suspension technicians perform service on all suspension, using all required tools and following all proper procedures. Anyone without access to the proper equipment or with any concerns on the procedures should defer to an authorized Cane Creek service center for service. Improper service can result in loss of performance or suspension failure. All Cane Creek forks have pressurized oil. Follow the service procedures exactly as written to avoid possible injury or harm to the suspension. Always wear eye protection while performing suspension service.

Please dispose of all waste products and materials through proper channels to avoid contamination of the environment.

Any damage or issues resulting from improper service will not be covered by warranty. If you have a fork still in its original warranty period and do not wish to void your warranty, please contact an authorized Cane Creek service center.

These service instructions cover the basic service procedures using standard service kits. If your suspension requires parts beyond standard replacement parts – CSU, compression rods, etc. – please consult your authorized Cane Creek service center or contact us at our Cane Creek Support Center.

Service Notes

These instructions cover the 50 hour lower service, which is the first step in both the complete 100 hour damper and spring service.

General Prep

Clean fork and record tune if desired. Inspect fork for any damage, particularly scratches on the stanchions.

If desired, remove side swipe guards with a 3mm hex key to clean the lower legs if they are particularly dirty. Otherwise, service can be completed with the side swipe guards on.

Lower Leg Removal

Step 1 – Air Side Leg Removal

With fork oriented horizontally, use a 13mm socket to remove the air side top nut from the crown. Pull out the lower leg slightly to fully expose the lower seal carrier. Either by hand or using a strap wrench, unthread the lower seal carrier.

Pull out the air side leg assembly. Drain all fluid into an approved oil waste container. Do not re-use. Slide the wiper and seal carrier assembly off the leg assembly and set aside. Remove and discard the sag o-ring. Thoroughly clean the leg assembly and set aside.

Step 2 – Damper Side Leg Removal

Using an 18mm socket, remove the damper knob assembly from the crown. Pull out the lower leg slightly to fully expose the lower seal carrier. Either by hand or using a strap wrench, unthread the lower seal carrier.

CSU Cleaning and Wiper Seal Service

Step 1 – CSU Oil Removal and Cleaning

Drain all fluid into an approved oil waste container. Do not re-use. Clean the CSU with solvent and a microfiber cloth, taking care not to damage the bushings.

Step 2 – Wiper Seal Removal

Remove and discard the foam rings from the seal carrier assembly. Remove and discard the seal carrier O-ring. Thoroughly clean the wiper for removal.

Always use extreme caution when using a pick in this step or others to avoid scratching metal parts. Failure to do this can create scratches in the o-ring glands which cause leak paths for oil or air.

Clean the threads of the upper tubes and seal carriers, and thread the seal carrier assemblies onto the CSU assembly. With the carriers installed, use a large open-ended wrench or seal puller to pry out the wiper seals and discard. Be careful to pad the fulcrum. Clean the wiper seal bores with solvent and verify they are fully cleaned and dry. Remove the carrier assembly.

Step 3 – Wiper Seal Install

Thoroughly clean the seal carrier with alcohol and wipe dry with a microfiber cloth. Using a 38mm seal carrier wiper tool, press the wiper into the carrier until the wiper seal is bottomed out.

Grease and install a new seal head carrier O-ring. O-ring sits in lowest groove, just above scalloped feature.

Step 4 – Wiper Carrier Assembly Install

Install a new sag ring onto the air leg. Install presoaked foam rings into the seal carrier assembly below the wiper. Grease and install the wiper seal carrier assembly onto the air leg.

Use a pick if needed to work the foam ring around the stanchion. It is crucial not to pinch or catch the foam ring during install.

Repeat for the damper side.

Lower Leg Reassembly

Step 1 – Leg Prep

Grease and install the rebound adjuster o-ring (AAD1060) and foot nut o-ring (.AD0111).

Step 2 – Leg Install

Slide the air leg assembly into the air side upper tube. Thread the seal carrier onto the upper tube and tighten firmly by hand or with a strap wrench. Repeat with the damper side leg.

Residual oil from the upper tube and seal carrier threads may leak from the seam. Wipe clean.

Step 3 – Splash Oil

Add 15wt bath oil to the lowers: 10 mL on the damper side, 7.5 mL on the spring side. Inject through the center holes in the top caps. Legs may need to be pulled out slightly to allow room.

Step 4 – Foot Nut Install

Insert the air leg and damper leg fully. Rotate each leg counterclockwise until the foot nuts catch the torque tabs on the top cap. The foot nut will stop rotating when located.

Apply blue Loctite (243) to the compression rod and rebound knob threads. Carefully start threading the rebound knob onto the damper rod, taking care not to push the rod back into the lowers. Hand thread the compression rod foot nut.

Step 5 – Foot Nut Torque

Torque the compression rod foot nut to 7.5 Nm using a 13mm socket. Torque the rebound adjuster to 10 Nm using an 18mm socket and torque wrench.

Do NOT over torque.

Final Set Up
