HSA/FSA Eligible Components

Cane Creek is partnered with Truemed, so you can use pre-tax HSA or FSA dollars on eligible components. Because those dollars were never taxed, the money goes further than it would from your checking account. How much further depends on your own tax situation.

Items in this collection may be eligible with a Truemed Letter of Medical Necessity, handled at checkout.

Truemed is for qualified customers. HSA/FSA tax savings vary. Learn more at truemed.com/disclosures.

How it works

Three steps, and the health survey only has to be done once per qualifying purchase.

1

Add eligible items to your cart

Shop the HSA/FSA Eligible collection and check out as you normally would. Nothing changes until the payment step.

2

Choose Truemed at checkout

Select Truemed at checkout and answer a short health survey. A licensed practitioner reviews your answers.

3

Pay, and get your letter

If approved, Truemed confirms your eligible amount. Pay with your HSA/FSA card, or with a personal card and claim it back using the letter in your Truemed account.

How does paying with HSA/FSA save money?

HSA and FSA contributions come out of your paycheck before income tax is applied. Spending those dollars on an eligible component means the money was never taxed on its way to you. How much that's worth depends on your own tax rate.

Who is Truemed?

Truemed is a telehealth and payments company that lets Americans use HSA and FSA funds on preventive health purchases. They integrate into our checkout and manage the medical evaluation, carried out by an independent licensed practitioner who issues the Letter of Medical Necessity. Cane Creek never sees your health information.

What qualifies, and what doesn't

Eligibility is set by Truemed, not by Cane Creek. In general, components that change how your bike rides qualify. Clothing, tools and consumable spares do not.

  • Brakes and brake pads
  • Coil springs and shock hardware

Questions

What are HSA and FSA funds?

A Health Savings Account or Flexible Spending Account lets you set aside part of your paycheck before income tax is applied, to spend on qualified medical expenses. Most people get one through an employer health plan. Because the money is never taxed, a dollar in the account goes further than a dollar in your checking account.

What is a Letter of Medical Necessity?

It's documentation from a licensed practitioner stating that a product supports the treatment or prevention of a specific health condition. Bike components aren't automatically covered the way bandages are, so the letter is what supports the claim. Truemed collects the information and arranges the review.

Why is my eligible amount lower than my order total?

Our 2.5% payment processing fee, and the sales tax on that fee, aren't medical expenses, so they aren't HSA/FSA eligible. Everything else is handled for you: pay the whole order on one card, or let Truemed split it so your benefits card covers the eligible amount and the small remainder goes on a regular card.

I paid with a regular card. How do I get reimbursed?

Truemed emails you when your letter is ready, with your purchase receipt attached. The letter itself lives in your Truemed account, under recent activity, and you sign in with a one-time code sent to your email. Send both the receipt and the letter to your HSA or FSA administrator. If you split the payment between a benefits card and a personal card, you can claim the personal-card portion the same way. Your administrator decides how and when the reimbursement is paid.

Do I qualify?

That's decided by the practitioner who reviews your survey, not by Cane Creek and not by Truemed's software. Not everyone qualifies. The survey takes a few minutes, so the honest answer is that completing it is the only way to find out.

What happens if I don't qualify?

You can still complete your order with a normal payment method. Nothing about your cart changes.

Why isn't everything on the site eligible?

Eligibility rules are set by Truemed and follow IRS guidance on qualified medical expenses. Components that change how a bike rides can qualify. Apparel, tools, accessories and most small replacement parts don't. Our HSA/FSA Eligible collection shows exactly what does.

Can I still use a regular credit card?

Yes. Truemed is an additional option at checkout, not a replacement. If you'd rather not go through the survey, check out normally with any payment method we accept.

How long does the Letter of Medical Necessity take?

The survey itself takes a few minutes. Practitioner review is handled by Truemed, and they'll tell you where you stand and what to do next. Timing is theirs, not ours, so we'd rather point you to them than quote a number we don't control.

I'm outside the US. Does this apply to me?

No. HSAs and FSAs are US tax-advantaged accounts, so Truemed applies to US customers only. International orders check out normally.

Can I use this on a warranty or crash replacement order?

No. Truemed applies to standard retail purchases through our online store. For warranty claims or crash replacement, contact our support team directly and we'll handle it through the usual process.
