FAQ
Can I use a Shimano XTR 12 speed chain with eeWings?
Yes, to use eeWings Mountain with any Shimano 12 spd mtb drivetrain, simply use one of our Cane Creek chainrings. These rings have a tooth profile that fits 12spd Shimano chains.
What Bottom Bracket shells are eeWings All-Road compatible with?
eeWings All-Road can be mounted on any modern road bike bottom bracket standard. The cranks use a 30mm spindle, so you just need to make sure the bottom bracket that corresponds with your frame is for 30mm spindle. We make Cane Creek bottom brackets that allow eeWings All-Road to be fitted to the following: 68mm threaded (BSA & T47 external), 86.5mm threaded (T47internal), 68mm press-fit (BB30 & PF30), and 86.5mm press-fit (PF41).
What Bottom Bracket shells are eeWings Mountain compatible with?
eeWings Mountain are compatible with 73mm and 92mm threaded shells, and 73mm, 89.5mm, and 92mm press-fit shells. This means the cranks are compatible with most mountain bikes, except for Downhill and Fatbikes. The cranks use a 30mm spindle, so you just need to make sure the bottom bracket that corresponds with your frame is for 30mm spindle. We make Cane Creek bottom brackets to allow the cranks to be fitted to most applications: BSA, T47, PF41, BB30 & PF30.
Can I use my eeWings All-Road crankset with my T47 Bottom Bracket?

Are eeWings compatible with bikes and drivetrains that use SRAM DUB WIDE cranks?
Yes, eeWings are compatible with SRAM DUB WIDE. To make sure you match the WIDE chainline, you'll need to select a 0mm offset chrainring for mountain bike use, or a 3mm offset chainring for road and gravel use.
What arm lengths are offered for eeWings?
eeWings All-Road are offered in 165mm, 170mm, and 172.5mm. eeWings Mountain are offered in 160mm, 165mm, and 170mm. Due to falling demand in recent years, we no longer produce eeWings in 175mm lengths.
What is the Q-Factor on eeWings All-Road?
eeWings All-Road have a Q-factor of 160mm. eeWings Mountain have a Q-factor of 176mm.
What's the difference between eeWings All-Road and eeWings Mountain?
Not very much! The only difference is the spindle width. The mountain cranks use a roughly 5mm wider spindle to accomodate for the wider bottom bracket shells used on mountain bikes. The arms, materials, and construction of the cranks are otherwise identical.
What kind of material do I use to touch up the brushed finish of my eeWings All-Road?
3M 96 Scotchbrite, green color, Medium Duty Scouring Pad.
Can I use a direct mount spider with eeWings All-Road?
Yes, eeWings All-Road cranks use the 8-bolt direct mount interface, popularized by modern SRAM cranksets. Any 8-bolt spiders or power meters can be used with eeWings. We also produce our own spiders that allow eeWings to be used with Shimano Ultegra, Dura-Ace, and GRX chainrings.
Why did my eeWings All-Road not come with pedal washers?
eeWings do not require the use of pedal washers. Washers may be used if so desired for bike fit purposes, but remeber that the Q-factor on eeWings is already wider than most competitor cranks so the use of washers is likely not necessary.
What is the warranty on my eeWings All-Road?
All 8-bolt eeWings come with a limited lifetime warranty. These are some of the most durable cranks on earth and we're proud to stand behind them as the last cranks you'll need to buy. For details on our warranty coverage and process, see the warranties page on canecreek.com.
What are the eeWings made of?
The eeWings arms are Grade 9 Ti-3AI-2.5V titanium because this particular ti alloy is best for making drawn and formed tubes. The hirth joint/chain ring interface, spindle, pedal inserts, and preloader screw are Grade 5 Ti-6AI-4V titanium, as this alloy is better for machined parts. The main fixing bolt is 17-4 stainless steel. The required 1.75mm spindle spacer, and preload assembly (thread ring and spacer ring) are made of 7075 aluminum.
How much do the eeWings All-Road weigh?
The 165mm All-Road cranks weight 398 grams. This includes all items included in the assembly (arms, spindle, fastening bolt/washer, chainring bolts, spindle spacer, preload assembly).
Should I uses anti-seize or grease on eeWings?
Since all current 8-bolt eeWings use stainless steel hardware (fixing bolt and chainring bolts) anti-seize is NOT necessary in most applications. It is recommended to use blue loctite on the main fixing bolt and standard assembly grease on the chainring bolts and pedal threads. The only scenario where anti-seize is needed is when using pedals with titanium spindles.
Can I use the Cane Creek preload assembly on another crankset?
Yes, the Cane Creek Crank Preloader is compatible with all SRAM DUB cranks, as well as any other crank that uses a 30mm spindle, such as those made by Easton or Raceface.
Can I use my eeWings Mountain crankset with my T47 Bottom Bracket?
Yes! eeWings are compatible with both internal and external style T47 bottom brackets
What bottom bracket do I need for my bike?
You can usually find this information by looking up your bicycle’s technical specifications on the manufacturer’s website. A good local bike shop can also help you identify the right bottom bracket.
What bottom bracket do I need for my cranks?
First you must ensure that the bottom bracket bearing size is compatible with your crank’s spindle diameter. If you have eeWings, then any of our 30mm bottom brackets will work with the 30mm spindle of the eeWings crank. If you have a SRAM DUB crank, then any of our 29mm (DUB) bottom brackets will work with the 29mm spindle DUB cranks. For shimano cranks, choose the 24mm option.
What's the difference between radial and angular contact bearings?
Radial and angular contact bearings look identical on the outside but differ internally. Angular contact bearings have angled inner and outer races that apply pressure (preload) to the ball bearings in the middle. Radial bearings have grooves on the inner and outer edges in which the ball bearings ride in, making them less affected by differences in alignment and preload as angular contact bearings. Angular contact bearings are thought to be longer lasting than radial bearings, but only if the bearings are preloaded properly and evenly. A small misalignment in a frame, or too much or too little preload force applied to the bearings will result in much faster wear than radial bearings.
Radial bearings are more forgiving, this is because the non angled surface helps reduce stress on the bearing cartridge caused by the weight of the load (you and your bike). Hellbender 70 bottom bracket bearings are radial. All of that being said, the real killer of radial or angular contact bearings, is corrosion which Hellbender bearings fight with the use of high grade, 440C stainless steel.
What tools do I need to Install my Cane Creek Bottom Bracket?
BSA bottom brackets use a 12-notch, 46mm diameter tool like the Park Tool BBT-79.3. You can also use any other brand of 12 notch tool with these same dimensions.
T47 External bottom brackets use the Park Tool BBT-79.3 or similar tool.

How do I know what spacers to use with my Cane Creek bottom bracket?
Use this guide to determine what spacers you need for your Cane Creek bottom bracket. This guide specifically details the spacers needed when pairing eeWings with any of our Hellbender bottom brackets.
What chainring can do I use on my eeWings?
First generation eeWings (2018 - 2025) use SRAM 3-bolt direct mount interace. There are many brands that make chainrings using this mounting configuration. All second generation eeWings (2025-2026) use the more contemporary SRAM 8-bolt direct mount interface. Cane Creek produces our own chainring for the 8-bolt crank. These chainrings are designed to work with nearly all modern 12 and 13spd speed drivetrains. To determine exactly what offset chainring you need for your particular bike, see our Chainring and Chainline guide here.
Do eeWings work with superboost spacing?
In most cases, eeWings fit on bikes that use Superboost (157x12mm) rear hub spacing. eeWings use a spindle length that accommodates most modern applications, including Superboost. It is often required to use a 0mm offset chainring for this application.
Do eeWings fit downhill bikes?
No. Though eeWings would be stiff enough and strong enough for DH use, the spindle is not long enough to fit through the wider bottom bracket shells (83mm threaded) used on most downhill bikes. If your DH bike uses a 73mm threaded or 92mm press-fit BB shell, then eeWings ARE compatible.
