Brake Technology

Cane Creek has a long history of providing great brakes. Indeed, Cane Creek was conceived by a group of brake guys…maybe you’ve heard of Dia-Compe? Dia-Compe USA was housed in the same building (and employed many of the same people) as Cane Creek does today. Back in those days it was aluminum in, brakes out, ranging from the most exotic cold forged “brake jewelry” around to entry level product. While times have certainly changed, Cane Creek’s dedication to great brakes hasn’t diminished.

Road Brakes

The cold forged dual pivot SL is the evolutionary step forward from the 200SL (a great little sidepull brake). While only weighing in at 264g per set (132g per caliper) Cane Creek's SL road caliper offers:

Intuitively controllable stopping power with less required lever force provided by the new dual pivot design
Titanium hardware
Adjustable spring preload allows fine tuning of lever feel
Adjustable pad centering for fine tuning of pad force distribution
Cartridge type brake pad holders with Kool-Stop pads

If weight is not a primary concern, Cane Creek offer both the SCR-5 and SCR-3 brakes. Both offer the same attention to detail, commitment to quality, and many of the same features as the SL, but in a slightly heavier package. Additionally, the SCR-3 is available in a long reach version for bikes designed with increased tire clearance.

Linear Brakes

The patented Direct Curve line of brakes improves on the run-of-the-mill long-arm or “V-brake” configuration by foregoing linkages and noodles which eases setup, reduces cable friction, and minimizes maintenance (US Patent 6079523). Through clever engineering, and a modular design, the Direct Curve 5 adds infinite adjustability, allowing unrestricted cable routing options and brake pad placement.

Cantilever Brakes

Cane Creek uses a classic, reliable cantilever brake design suited for cyclocross, touring, and other applications that demand lightweight (160g / brake) high-performance braking. Our SCX-5 is cold forged for strength, and then polished to both look great and make them easier to clean after being caked with mud. Adjustable linear return springs allow precise pad centering and an adjustable feel at the lever.
